My name is Susan Schafer.

I am a 22-year-old journalism grad currently working as an Editorial Assistant for CBC News Network (Canada's all-day news channel). In my spare time, I am pursuing freelance opportunities and love to write articles of interest to Canadians. I graduated from the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College joint journalism program where I earned various awards for my work, including maintaining the top G.PA. for a returning journalism student. I have been published in a variety of outlets including The National Post, cbc.ca, Glue Magazine, and a number of community newspapers in Ottawa and the GTA. I take an interest in all areas of journalism, but have a special passion for human interest stories, quirky international news, and articles about food and entertaining.

I got my start at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation by completing an internship with the award-winning Investigative Unit which recently picked up a Michener for their reporting on taser-use. I also attended an Investigative Reporters and Editors Conference this past Spring where I learned from such journalism greats as Bob Woodward and Seymour Hersh.

This summer I caught the travel bug living on my wits and touring around Europe. This trip not only intensified my desire to be a journalist, but set a fire inside myself to live life to its fullest potential.

Outside my reporting, I have worked as a cashier, bartender, server, and have volunteered with organizations such as UNICEF, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Canadian Cancer Society.

I hope you enjoy my articles and would love to hear any comments or suggestions you have.
